This is THE major differentiator of Vinyl Report

A complete gamification system that transforms your passion into a competitive adventure. You're not just cataloging records, you're building your legendary collector status.

Collection

Number of records owned and estimated collection value (rare and valuable records boost your score)

Achievement Badges

Unlock Collector, Treasure Hunter, Time Traveler, and Completionist to earn bonus XP

Engagement

The more you document your albums (ratings, conditions, descriptions, streaming links), the more XP you accumulate. Every interaction counts.

XP score calculation details

Your total score = badges + collection + engagement. The sum (collection + engagement) is capped at 8,720 XP. Collection: number of albums (progressive scale: 6 XP/album for the first 50, 11 XP for the next 50, 14 XP beyond 100), recent activity bonus (+2 XP per album added in the last 30 days, max 120 XP), estimated value (total purchase price ÷ 50, max 500 XP). Engagement: collection age in days × 5 + current streak × 10 (capped at 2,500 XP). Badges: Collector (100 XP/level), Treasure Hunter (40 XP/level), Time Traveler (50 XP/level), Completionist (125 XP/level). A smaller but well-documented and engaged collection can thus outrank a larger but passive one.

The Vinyl Report leaderboard

Your total XP score positions you in a leaderboard of Vinyl Report member collectors. You climb from "Newbie Spinner" to "Living Legend" level in competition with the entire community. It's for glory, honor, and in the name of love for musical culture.

The social discovery aspect

The leaderboard doesn't just show scores. You can explore other users' collections, discover what they own, and let curiosity guide you toward albums you never would have thought of. It's an incredible way to step out of your musical comfort zone, discover genres you don't listen to by default, and find gems thanks to other enthusiasts' tastes. Vinyl Report transforms collection management into a progression game where every documented record, every unlocked badge, and every position gained in the ranking strengthens your status in the collector community.

Scan a barcode

Click Add album then select Scan a barcode. Point your phone at the barcode. Information appears instantly. You can add the album to your collection or wishlist.

EAN/UPC identifier or catalog reference

Enter the code printed under the barcode (13 or 12 digits). Vinyl Report queries Discogs and automatically fills out the record.

Manual entry

For rare pressings, bootlegs, or albums absent from Discogs, fill in the fields yourself. No record is refused.
You control exactly what others see.

Public mode (default)

Your collection is visible to other members and you appear in the leaderboard. You can share albums or your entire collection via a unique read-only link.

Private mode

When you enable private mode in your settings, your name is replaced by "Private collector" everywhere in the app. You disappear from the leaderboard and no longer earn XP points. The community can still view your album records, but you remain invisible by default. This setting can be changed at any time. Your data remains intact in both cases.
The estimated value of your collection is calculated by adding the estimated values of all your albums that have a verified EAN code and the album's condition.

Where do these values come from?

For each album, Vinyl Report queries Discogs (the world's largest vinyl database) to get a price estimate based on the album's condition you've indicated (Mint, Near Mint, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor).

How does it work?

The app uses Discogs marketplace data to estimate each album's value based on its condition. For example, an album in "Mint" condition will generally have a higher estimated value than one in "Fair" condition.

Why don't some albums have an estimated value?

If an album doesn't have a verified EAN code, no defined condition, or if Discogs doesn't have price data for that album, it won't be included in the calculation. Only albums with complete data are taken into account.

Are the values accurate?

No, these are estimates based on Discogs marketplace data. Actual prices can vary based on supply and demand, rarity, and other factors. These estimates give you an idea of your collection's value but don't constitute an official appraisal.

Are the values updated?

Yes, estimated values are cached for 7 days to improve performance, then automatically recalculated. If you change an album's condition, the estimated value is recalculated immediately.

What's an EAN/UPC code?

It's the barcode on the back of your record (series of numbers, usually 13 or 12 digits). Vinyl Report uses it to identify the exact edition and fetch all the info from Discogs.

Can I use Vinyl Report offline?

Yes, once the app is installed on your home screen, you can browse your collection without a connection. However, to add new records or fetch info from Discogs/Wikipedia, you need Internet.

I can't find my record on Discogs, what should I do?

No problem! Use manual entry to create a custom entry. Fill in the fields you know (artist, title, year, etc.) and leave the others blank.

Can I import an existing collection?

Yes. Go to Settings, then to the Import collection tab. Download the CSV template, fill it with your records (max 20 per file), then import it. Handy if you already have a spreadsheet of your collection.

Is the app free?

Yes, Vinyl Report is 100% free and ad-free. You have access to all features without limits.

I see errors or have suggestions, how can I contact you?

Use the contact form on the site. We're always open to feedback and improvement ideas!
